One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!

Well my angel, as you can read from the heading, you have indeed given what we like to think is your first steps.

It's been coming for a while, you've been "falling" with a little stumble into either my or dad's arms when prompted. But the night before last you gave a couple of definite, directed and controlled steps to dad and to me. So yes, there is trouble on the way! We are so very proud of you and the sheer determination on your face when you focus on the task at hand is one of the most adorable things we've ever seen. Followed by the elation of finally accomplishing that task ofcourse! So well done my boy, today the living room, tomorrow the world. We hope you will give plenty of leaps for mankind one day, and may all your steps from here on be directed by love, gratitude and sincerity.

Ohpaw sent this song to me by John Denver. It was written for his son Bobby, but as ohpaw said, it might as well have been for you:

I’ll walk in the rain by your side
I’ll cling to the warmth of your hand
I’ll do anything to keep you satisfied
I’ll love you more than anybody can

And the wind will whisper your name to me
Little birds will sing along in time
Leaves will bow down when you walk by
And morning bells will chime

I’ll be there when you’re feelin’ down
To kiss away the tears if you cry
I’ll share with you all the happiness I’ve found
A reflection of the love in your eyes

And I’ll sing you the songs of the rainbow
A whisper of the joy that is mine
And leaves will bow down when you walk by
And morning bells will chime

I’ll walk in the rain by your side
I’ll cling to the warmth of your tiny hand
I’ll do anything to help you understand
And I’ll love you more than anybody can

And the wind will whisper your name to me
Little birds will sing along in time
Leaves will bow down when you walk by
And morning bells will chime

Love you plenty my angel.

Precious Caden, your mommy wrote such beautiful and wise words on forgiveness that Oh-Paw felt he just had to join in. Here are a few words of wisdom on forgiveness by some very wise people:

The more you know yourself, the more you forgive yourself. Confucius

We hate others when we hate ourselves. We are tolerant toward others when we tolerate ourselves. We forgive others when we forgive ourselves. Eric Hoffer

It is very easy to forgive others their mistakes; it takes more grit and gumption to forgive them for having witnessed your own. Jessamyn West

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Mohandas K. Gandhi

Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime,
Therefore, we are saved by hope.
Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history;
Therefore, we are saved by faith.
Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone.
Therefore, we are saved by love.
No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own;
Therefore, we are saved by the final form of love which is forgiveness. Reinhold Niebuhr
When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free. Catherine Ponder
To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover the prisoner was YOU. Unknown
And finally, on the lighter side:
There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness. Josh Billings
Always forgive your enemies--nothing annoys them so much. Oscar Wilde
Well said Elriza angel – you and Wes have wisdom beyond your years.
Lots of love – Oh-Paw

And yes, of course, dear Caden, congratulations on taking your first real steps -we're all VERY proud of you. Maybe one day it will be said of you, "He doth bestride this narrow world like a Colossus."

Love you

Well done angel pie. Congratulations on your first steps. These definitely will be the first of many you will take in this world. You are becoming such a big boy now. Soon you will be running around in the garden. Well done little man.

Happy birthday to a VERY special lady!

Dearest Caden,

I vaguely suspect that you are quite aware of this, but if you are not, let me tell you that today is your lovely mommy’s birthday. And what a mommy you have!

Elriza angel, from the moment you breathed your first breath on this planet your life has been characterised by love. Not only the love you have received, but more especially, the love you have given to those around you. In the words of Kahlil Gibran, you often were, “wounded by your own understanding of love …” but you bled “willingly and joyfully.”

You seem to have realised early in life that the Power of Love is far greater than the Love of Power, and indeed, where Power reigns, Love is absent. But wherever Love reigns, the desire for Power disappears. And so it is, that even in the harshest places on earth – and in the hardest of human hearts, love will find a way.

Johnny Depp once said, “The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are dogs and infants.” I would add to that, “and Elriza Paul.”

Happy birthday angel.

Love you Lots,

Paw and Oh-Paw.

First of all I want to wish your Mom a wonderful happy birthday. May your day and your life ahead be blessed with good health and lots and lots of happiness and may the road ahead be lined with roses.
Well little mister angel-pie, today a year ago (14 May 2008) was the first time Granny Grey and I saw you and were able to hold you. My oh my how you have grown. You have become such a little cutie-pie and those smiles and laughs just creep right into our hearts.
Today you must be extra special cute and very good to your mom because remember she is a very special person not only in your life but in all of those whom she comes into contact with. Give her a big hug from all of us.
Auntie Nettie and I were just saying that your photo of you on your little motorbike reminds us of "Dennis the Menace".
Thats all for now angel-pie.
Lots and lots of hugs and kisses
Granny

Liewe Caden,
Liewer laat as nooit!!
Lief julle 3.
